THE MALVERN HILLS SUSTAINABILITY HUB

SITE: PORTLAND HOUSE, GREAT MALVERN

The Malvern Hills Sustainability Hub is broken down into a shop, workshop/lecture space and educational holiday apartments fitted with smart technologies to track and help with their sustainability.

The concept is the outdoor community that the Malvern Hills create. The design reflects this by the communal spaces and community feel along with the visual contour forms extracted from the topography of the Hills.

The Hub itself is sustainable in many ways through the use of rain water collection and solar pannels. As the building was built in the 1840s it was not built with any sustainable elements in mind, therefore, having no insulation or sound proofing. To solve this I added to the design an expanded cork layer wilh lambs wool between the new layer and existing structure which would line the walls, floors and ceilings.

The aim is to teach the users so that they can be sustainable in their own homes through knowledge and creating sustainable habbits.
